A storm front originally forecast to pass south and east of Maine has shifted to a more westerly direction, ramping up the National Weather Service (NWS) alert status for Lincoln County and forecast to bring in 6 to 12 inches of snowfall by Sunday morning.
At 3:04 p.m. on Saturday the NWS upgraded a Winter Weather Advisory to a Winter Storm Warning for Heavy Snow. This particular warning means that severe winter weather is either expected or occurring, according to the NWS.
The NWS is also warning that during the overnight hours gusty winds may combine with heavy snowfall to reduce visibility on area roadways.
The high winds are forecast to strengthen and gust up to 25 mph from the north even after the snowfall tapers off Sunday morning, according to the NWS.
The Lincoln County News will continue to follow the progress of this event and post any additional information here as soon as it becomes available.
