Wednesday’s storm seems to have slowed its march toward Lincoln County, with rainfall just beginning to hit the southern most tip of Southport around noon, according to radar images monitored at intellicast.com.
Earlier forecasts had timed the arrival by mid-morning, with a Winter Weather Advisory issued by the National Weather Service taking effect at 10 a.m. on Wednesday.
The latest combined forecasts indicate the leading edge of the storm should begin to affect Lincoln County in the mid afternoon, bringing an initial burst of mixed precipitation or snow depending on what part of the county you’re in at the time.
Precipitation is then forecast to become variable and settle in through Thursday.
Lincoln County should see every type of precipitation this storm has to offer, with inland areas seeing mostly snow and peninsulas seeing mostly rain, according to forecasts. Areas in the central county along the Rt. 1 corridor are likely to see an ever-changing mélange of winter weather, with the greatest possibility of accumulating snowfall during the overnight hours on Wednesday, according to forecasts.
The present forecast is calling for 3 to 5 inches of snowfall accumulation, according to the NWS, but much that may be lost to rainfall.
A Winter Weather Advisory issued by the NWS remains in effect until 3 p.m. on Thursday.
The Lincoln County News will continue to follow the progress of this event and post any additional information here as soon as it is obtained.
