Waldoboro Police have made an arrest in the case of Lady, the stray black Labrador-mix dog whose body was found to be riddled with round pellets after being found as a stray in Waldoboro and taken to the Lincoln County Animal Shelter.
Police Chief Bill Labombarde said Thursday afternoon that a suspect has been arrested and charged with aggravated cruelty to animals, a Class C felony.
Labombarde said the district Attorney’s Office has been notified of the arrest, which took place at approximately 4 p.m. on June 13.
Dr. Dean Domeyer, a veterinarian at Boothbay Animal Hospital said earlier that day he planned to remove at least one of the approximately 80-100 pellets, previous characterized as BBs, to determine the material from which they were made. He said that would be done June 14.
Lady has been adopted by Pete Blantor of Walpole, who said he feels very fortunate to have found a dog that fits so well into his home.
The dog’s condition was first discovered during a routine examination done as part of the shelter’s intake process.
The Lincoln County News will follow with more information on this story as it becomes available.
A full report will appear in the Thursday, June 20 print edition.
