A 25-year-old from St. Louis, Mo., was found deceased in Boothbay Harbor waters on Saturday, Oct. 3 at approximately 8:59 a.m. Don Johnson, a seasonal worker in Boothbay Harbor, was found in the water near the footbridge by pedestrians walking across it, Boothbay Harbor Police Chief Robert Hasch said.
Officer Tom Chryplewicz received the report of a body, later identified as Johnson, in the tidal area near the footbridge, according to a Boothbay Harbor Police Department press release. The police department and the Boothbay Harbor Fire Department responded to the scene.
Johnson was employed at the Fisherman’s Wharf Inn, an inn employee said. However, the Fisherman’s Wharf Inn is not releasing a public statement at this time, the employee said.
The investigation is ongoing, with police reviewing Johnson’s movement Friday night through security camera footage and interviews with witnesses, Hasch said.
Johnson’s body has been transferred to the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Augusta to determine the cause of death.
