The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office believes the discovery of a stolen Mercedes in Newcastle and the theft of another vehicle from Newcastle Chrysler are related.
An individual went to the dealership the evening of Monday, April 13, took a gold 2006 Mercury Mountaineer for a test drive, and did not return it, Lt. Rand Maker said.
“We do have a person of interest and we believe it was tied to” the recovery of the 2010 Mercedes Benz in the parking lot of Homeport Supply around the same time, Maker said. The Mercedes was stolen from Boston last week, he said.
“We’re working with state and federal authorities right now to try to recover the vehicle and identify our suspect,” Maker said.
The sheriff’s office believes the individual traveled south, outside Lincoln County and perhaps outside the state, Maker said.
