Taction, a telephone sales and service business based in Waldoboro for nearly 20 years, was sold Aug. 1 to Pennsylvania-based AnswerNet, according to Taction founder Steve White.
New England 800 Company, which White founded in 1983, has been doing call center work as “Taction: The Contact Center” since around 2000, White said.
According to their website, AnswerNet “is the largest privately held telemessaging (telephone answering) company in the world.”
With the sale, AnswerNet acquired the name, the good will, the logos, and the assets of the Taction portion of the business, White said.
Donna Lambertucci, AnswerNet’s director of marketing, said Taction will be added to the AnswerNet family of companies.
“Taction is a logical addition to that because of the proven expertise and success they’ve had,” she said.
Lambertucci said there have been no staff reductions as part of the sale and there are no planned cuts as of right now, but the call center will likely move.
“At this in point in time, the call center is in Waldoboro. It’s probably going to move to a larger headquarters but not far away,” Lambertucci said.
“I understand that it’s a smaller community and people are very concerned about companies moving, but we’re very committed to the region and having a call center in that part of the country,” she said.
“As we go forward hopefully we’re going to make the business even more robust,” Lambertucci said.
An intellectual property side of New England 800 Company built around the trademark “800-Call-Now” has not been sold, White said. That portion of the business will probably not operate out of the Jefferson street building where Taction was located, he said.
New England 800 Company was first located in Rockland, followed by Thomaston, and relocated to Waldoboro in around 1995, White said.
