Two officers from Two Bridges Regional Jail will be training Canadian corrections officers in New Brunswick for two weeks in October and November.
Lt. James Bailey and Sgt. Darryl Groh will be leading training seminars on communication skills and methods for running a direct supervision housing unit.
Groh said they will be teaching some 60 correctional officers.
“We’re tailoring the lesson to their needs,” Groh said.
Bailey and Groh will be traveling to Dalhousie, New Brunswick in October and Moncton, New Brunswick in November.
Dalhousie and Moncton are currently in the process of building two jails similar in size to TBRJ. Bailey and Groh will be preparing the eventual operators of these jails.
Eight Canadian representatives previously visited TBRJ in January to observe the jail’s training methods.
TBRJ is known both in and out of state for its ability to provide a safe environment for inmates while at the same time saving money. Law enforcement officers from around the state frequently go to TBRJ for training.
County Administrator John O’Connell said he wasn’t surprised by the invitation to train Canadian corrections officers.
“They do a tremendous job…I doubt everybody understands how great they do,” O’Connell said.
Bailey and Groh begin their trip Sun, Oct 2.
