A Texas woman was arrested following an accident on Gardiner Road in Wiscasset the afternoon of Sept. 5 that sent four individuals to the hospital. Barbara Masterson, 62, of Bulverde, Texas was arrested for operating under the influence, a class D misdemeanor, Sept. 5 and held at Two Bridges Regional Jail after she was treated for injuries at LincolnHealth – Miles Campus.
Masterson was held on $3,000 bail, which was posted on Sept. 6, a jail official said. Masterson was traveling north on Gardiner Road in a 2000 Cadillac Escalade when she swerved into the southbound lane, according to a Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office accident report.
Paul J. Slovak, 59, of Jay, was traveling southbound on a 2000 Harley-Davidson motorcycle and drove into a ditch to avoid the Escalade. Slovak was ejected from his motorcycle. He was transported to Mid Coast Hospital where he was treated and released, a hospital spokesperson said.
Robert A. Schmidt, 46, of Readfield, was traveling behind Slovak in the southbound lane in a 2011 Kia Sorento. Schmidt swerved into the northbound lane to avoid striking Masterson’s vehicle.
Masterson also swerved back into the northbound lane and struck Schmidt’s vehicle in the corner of the front passenger side, according to the accident report. Masterson’s vehicle spun 180 degrees before coming to a rest in the northbound lane.
Schmidt’s vehicle hit the curb, which caused his vehicle to roll onto its roof. Schmidt, Schmidt’s passenger, and Masterson were all transported to Miles, where they were treated and released.
The Wiscasset Police Department, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Wiscasset Fire Department, Wiscasset Ambulance Service, Bath Ambulance Service, and Central Lincoln County Ambulance Service all responded to the scene.
Lincoln County Sheriff’s Lt. Rand Maker was the investigating officer. Masterson is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 29.
