The First has donated $500 in continued sponsorship of Pemaquid Watershed Association’s (PWA) Doyle Preserve in Damariscotta. In 2004, The First became the very first business to sign on with PWA’s Adopt-a-Trail program, which supports PWA’s land trust work.
The First’s annual adoption donation helps PWA maintain the Doyle Preserve for visitors throughout the year and for PWA’s annual summer camp, Watershed Kids Nature Day Camp, which recently completed its sixth season.
The Watershed Kids spent a majority of camp at the Doyle Preserve focusing on different environmental themes such as forest and pond ecology. With 16 wooded acres and 1200-feet of Pemaquid Pond shorefront, the Doyle Preserve is a perfect site for campers to explore decomposing logs, catch and release amphibians and insects, search pond water for macroinvertebrates, make leaf and bark rubbings of common tree species, and hike trails searching for signs of wildlife.
“Well maintained trails and bridging at the preserve make the campers’- and all visitors’ – experiences safer and more enjoyable, and we are very grateful to The First for its ongoing support of our mission to conserve the natural resources of the Pemaquid Peninsula through land and water stewardship and education,” said PWA Executive Director Donna Minnis.
