According to MSAD/RSU 40 Supt. Frank Boynton, a written bomb threat was found in a restroom at Medomak Valley High School the morning of April 7.
Within minutes of discovery, the students involved confessed to writing the threat, and there was no evidence of the presence of any type of bomb, said Waldoboro Police Chief Bill Labombarde.
Staff and students were never at risk given the circumstances of the threat, Labombarde said. Labombarde interviewed the suspects, and determined that they didn’t have the capabilities to build or plant a bomb in the school, he said.
The building was not evacuated.
Following the Waldoboro Police investigation, the three students alleged to be responsible for the threat were charged with misdemeanor terrorizing, Labombarde said.
The legal consequences for the perpetrators will not be overly severe because the school was not evacuated, Labombarde said. “The real consequences are with the school, not the criminal justice system,” he said.
