Two local men and a third man from New York were arrested June 3 following a roughly two-month-long investigation into the distribution of crack cocaine and heroin in
Lincoln and Knox counties, according to a press release from Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland.
Jeffrey Aviles, 26, of Manhattan, N.Y., Alphonso Belnavis, 45, of Waldoboro, and Dean Feltis, 48, of Warren, were arrested in Waldoboro that evening,
according to police and court documents.
Aviles was arrested after police stopped a vehicle that had recently left a home on Flanders Corner Road, according to MDEA Supervisory Special Agent Jim
Pease.
The arrests and search of the home followed an investigation by agents from the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency’s Mid-Coast District Task Force, which began
following up on leads from the Rockland Police Department and Knox County Sheriff’s Office in early April.
Aviles allegedly traveled regularly between the Bronx and Waldoboro with crack and heroin, which was allegedly repackaged and sold to locals, according to
the press release.
According to Pease, Belnavis and Feltis allegedly attempted to flush the drugs and run out of the house.
“Feltis was tackled by officers on the back deck …,” according to McCausland’s release.
Drug agents were assisted by the Waldoboro Police Department, the Maine State Police, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, and the Maine Warden Service.
In their search of the home, police allegedly found and seized 28 grams of crack cocaine, 1 gram of heroine, an AR-15 rifle, 200 rounds of ammunition, and
$2,500 cash, according to the release. The drugs were valued at $3,000.
All three men were taken to Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset.
Aviles was charged with aggravated trafficking in crack cocaine and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, and his bail was set at $50,000 cash,
according to the release.
Belnavis was charged with aggravated trafficking in crack cocaine and bail set at $100,000 cash; Feltis was charged with unlawful possession of heroin and
his bail was set at $5,000 cash.
