Three people traveling in a minivan were sent to the hospital the afternoon of Sept. 5 after the driver attempted a U-turn on Route 1 in Waldoboro and the van was
struck by a box truck, according to police.
Michele Mackenzie, 42, of Waldoboro, was operating a purple Dodge Grand Caravan northbound on Route 1 when she came over the large hill west of
Bullwinkle’s in the breakdown lane, according to Waldoboro Police Officer Jeff Fuller.
Mackenzie attempted to make a U-turn from the breakdown lane to go back up the hill when the van was struck by a northbound International box truck, Fuller
said.
Mackenzie and her two passengers – Violet Stanley, 45, of Waldoboro, and a juvenile male – were all taken to the Miles campus of LincolnHealth for
injuries, Fuller said.
A Lifeflight helicopter was called out for one of the individuals in the van but was canceled, he said.
Scott Shott, a spokesman for LincolnHealth, said Sept. 6 both women were treated for their injuries and released. The status of the juvenile male was not available.
The operator of the truck, Adam Brackett, 30, of Union, was uninjured, Fuller said.
