Three people, including one Waldoboro woman, were seriously injured in a head-on collision in Washington at 11 a.m. May 23, according to a press release from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.
David St. Pierre, 64, of Lewiston, was allegedly “erratically” operating a 2011 Chevrolet Impala eastbound on a straight stretch of Route 17 just east of the Somerville border when it suddenly crossed the center line and struck an oncoming vehicle, according to the release.
The other vehicle, a 2000 Nissan Xterra, was operated by Jeremy Sawyer, 35, of Rockport, who had Ashley Glover, 18, of Waldoboro, as a passenger.
Why St. Pierre’s vehicle crossed the center line was not known as of the afternoon of May 23.
According to the press release, all three people involved were transported by ambulance to Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Rockport and all injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.
The sheriff’s office was told Sawyer and Glover were both transferred to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, according to the release. EMMC personnel said neither Glover nor Sawyer were listed as patients as of May 26.
St. Pierre was expected to be transferred by Lifeflight to an unnamed trauma center in Maine.
According to Chief Deputy Tim Carroll, at the time the accident occurred he and Sheriff Donna Dennison were meeting with Department of Transportation Officials about head-on collisions and having rumble strips installed on certain Knox County roads.
