In light of the crowds expected to flock to Pemaquid for the 59th Annual Olde Bristol Days this weekend, officials are encouraging motorists to plan ahead.
To help alleviate traffic concerns, Olde Bristol Days organizers have arranged for two 28-passenger buses to transport passengers from the Bristol Consolidated School parking lot to the event sites both Saturday and Sunday.
The shuttles are expected to run continuously between 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 p.m. Saturday and 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
According to event organizers, roadside parking in the area is going to be limited throughout the weekend. One-way travel on Huddle and Snowball Hill Roads will be enforced between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., Sat.-Sun., Aug. 13-14.
The limited direction travel on Huddle and Snowball Hill Roads may be extended even later on Sat., Aug. 13 in light of the fireworks scheduled to begin around 9 p.m. at Pemaquid Beach.
The Olde Bristol Days parade is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Saturday. The parade follows the traditional route from the Samoset Restaurant on Rt. 130 through New Harbor, down Snowball Hill Road to Colonial Pemaquid Historic Site. Immediately prior to the parade time and immediately following, vehicle traffic in the area will be interrupted.
In a change from previous years, the majority of events are slated to take place at Pemaquid Beach Park. As a result, parking at the beach will be restricted to handicap use and those using the beach.
In light of events planned at Colonial Pemaquid, parking there will be limited as well but patrons of the Contented Sole restaurant and boaters using the boat launch should expect access as usual.
