A driver hauling a trailer while pulling out of a driveway led a Jefferson man to steer his pickup into a utility pole at around 12:45 p.m. on July 24.
Dave Straight, 66, of Jefferson, said he was southbound on Bunker Hill Road (Route 213) in Jefferson when he came upon another driver pulling out of a driveway.
“The truck would’ve been fine – it was the trailer,” Straight said. He swerved to the right to miss the trailer and struck a utility pole, which snapped at the base.
“Good thing I had my seat belt on,” Straight said. The airbag in his truck did not deploy, he said.
Members of both Jefferson Fire Department and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.
