The Bristol/South Bristol Transfer Station Board of Directors didn’t authorize the purchase of a missing ATV two years ago.
Former station manager Shawn Dinsmore faces a misdemeanor theft charge in connection with the missing vehicle.
Dinsmore allegedly bought the 2007 Polaris Ranger 500 for $7300 from Tri-Sports in Topsham using transfer station funds, Ken Lincoln, a member of the board, said. Dinsmore allegedly “falsified the records” to cover up the purchase, Lincoln said.
The side-by-side style vehicle, which features a dump body and a plow, was never used at the transfer station and probably never arrived there, Lincoln said.
Lincoln, the chairman of the South Bristol Board of Selectmen, made the statements at a Feb. 16 selectmen’s meeting. The Bristol and South Bristol selectmen also serve as the Bristol/South Bristol Transfer Station Board of Directors.
The Bristol/South Bristol Transfer Station Board of Directors suspended Dinsmore and another employee Dec. 12 as the result of an internal investigation unrelated to the theft. Dinsmore resigned Dec. 28.
Dinsmore allegedly sold the ATV, Lt. Michael Murphy of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said. The buyer may not have been aware of the vehicle’s status, he said.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office asks the buyer of the ATV or anyone else with information about the vehicle’s location to contact Detective Ronald Rollins at 882-6576.
