A Wiscasset man and an Augusta man face charges after allegedly burglarizing a Whitefield home and stealing $20,000 in cash and a shotgun in March.
One of the men also faces an animal cruelty charge for allegedly “having sexual contact with a dog,” according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
An Edgecomb woman faces charges in connection with the burglary and theft case.
Jeremy Geroux, 36, of Wiscasset, faces charges of burglary, criminal mischief, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, theft, theft of a firearm, and violating conditions of release.
Geroux also faces charges of leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident and operating after suspension in connection to a crash in Bristol in August 2013.
Jeffrey Lucas, 38, of Augusta, faces charges of burglary, operating after suspension, theft, and theft of a firearm.
Janice Bachelder, 36, of Edgecomb, faces charges of hindering apprehension or prosecution, receiving stolen property, and refusing to submit to arrest, as well as a charge of trafficking of tobacco into an adult correctional facility.
Bachelder had allegedly been bringing Geroux chewing tobacco while he was incarcerated at Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset on unrelated charges.
The sheriff’s office arrested Bachelder and Lucas on June 6 and Geroux on June 16.
The sheriff’s office issued Geroux a summons for animal cruelty on July 3.
The sheriff’s office obtained a search warrant for Geroux’s cellphone to look for evidence regarding the alleged burglary. Investigators found “photos of Geroux having sexual contact with a dog,” according to the press release.
Bachelder and Geroux remain in custody as of July 3; Lucas is free on bail.
The owner of the residence on Hinks Road in Whitefield reported the burglary and theft of the cash and shotgun, as well as some loose change, according to the press release.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division conducted an extensive investigation, leading to the recent charges.
