A Damariscotta retiree is restoring taxi service to Damariscotta.
Phil Hatch and Twin Village Taxi will be available for service throughout Lincoln County, as well as trips to the Portland International Jetport, beginning Mon., April 25.
A longtime builder and, more recently, an employee of The Stockyard, Hatch said he “just wanted something to do” after his retirement in January. “I’m not the type to just sit around, so I decided to do this.”
Despite rising gasoline prices, Hatch will try to offer rates comparable to those of a previous local taxi service, Wicked Good Taxi. A ride to the Jetport from Damariscotta will cost $99 for one or two people.
As of Monday, Hatch will be “right handy” seven days a week, for early morning trips to the Jetport and late night calls from local drinking establishments.
Hatch will pick up customers in his 1988 Mercedes SEL 420. A second car is “in the works,” he said.
