The Maine State Warden Service reported no injuries resulted from a two-boat collision that occurred on Pemaquid Pond Sunday night.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and Nobleboro Fire Dept. asked the Warden Service to assist in the incident in which one of the boats sank. According Warden Service spokesperson Debra Turcotte, they responded to a two-boat collision on Duck Puddle Stream, which flows into Pemaquid Pond.
After the collision, the Nobleboro Fire Dept. personnel stood by with another boat to assist in search efforts.
At the scene around 7 p.m. that night, Nobleboro Deputy Fire Chief Owen Cunningham confirmed that two boats had collided. Fire department personnel were making sure everyone was safe, he said. Shortly after, firefighters dispersed from the scene.
According to Turcotte, it was reported there were beer cans floating in the water in the location of the collision. Turcotte said the Warden Service generally does not issue press releases on property damage incidents, adding that no injuries resulting from the collision had been reported.
Nobleboro resident Barbara King, who said she witnessed the aftermath of the accident said, “We got a phone call that two boats had collided in the lake near our property. I looked out at the lake and saw people in the water, and they were struggling. One boat had sunk. I saw that they all got into the boat that was still floating, and then they went to a little island in the lake called Rock Island. I was very concerned, so I called 911. When I looked out again, they had left the island.”
Further details from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and the Warden Service is still pending. Turcotte said the incident remains under investigation.
