An elderly driver was transported to Miles Memorial Hospital with leg injuries when two cars smashed into each other at the intersection of Rt. 1 and the Sheepscot Road in Newcastle Monday afternoon.
Emily Dow, 20, of Cody, Wyoming sustained minor cuts from flying glass when she smashed her 1994 Saab four-door sedan into a 1996 Geo Metro.
According to Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Major Ken Mason, Dow was turning her car onto Rt. 1 as a white pickup heading south was turning onto the Sheepscot Road.
Mason said Dow did not see the car that was behind the truck. Pulling out onto Rt. 1, Dow’s Saab crashed into the Geo Metro, which was driven by Susan Foss, 70, of Boothbay Harbor. As Dow had minor cuts from the glass, she was not transported to Miles, Mason said.
U.S. Rt. 1 traffic was backed up roughly three quarters of a mile at 5 p.m. Oct. 27, but emergency personnel moved quickly and kept the traffic flowing smoothly. Two Lincoln County Sheriff deputies, Newcastle Fire Dept. and five ambulances from both Wiscasset and Central Lincoln County arrived at the scene.
