Police are currently on the scene of a two-car collision, with injury, on Rt. 1 in Newcastle, at the entrance of the Sherman Lake Marsh rest stop.
The Lincoln County News reporters on the scene say all drivers and passengers were being removed from the scene via ambulance. It appears one car was traveling southbound, and was rear-ended while turning into the rest area. Reportedly, high speed contributed to the accident.
Two Newcastle Fire units, two ambulances and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputy Ken Mason are on the scene. Reportedly, traffic is backed up for miles in both directions and vehicles are being diverted one car at a time through the Sherman Lake Marsh rest area parking lot.
Reporters on scene also viewed a black dog from one of the vehicles, was removed from the scene by Newcastle Fire Chief Clayton Huntley, and appeared to be uninjured.
