Two veteran public servants have declared themselves write-in candidates for the Damariscotta Board of Selectmen.
Former Damariscotta School Committee member James Cosgrove and longtime Damariscotta Planning Board member George Parker have separately confirmed their willingness to serve if elected.
A Realtor, Cosgrove is the designated broker and executive vice president of Newcastle Square Realty. He served nine years on the Damariscotta and Great Salt Bay school committees. He currently sits on the Lincoln County Health Care Board of Trustees and the Damariscotta Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee.
Parker, 70, is a veteran presence in Damariscotta affairs. He currently represents Damariscotta on the Lincoln County Regional Planning Commission and sits on the Damariscotta Comprehensive Planning Committee.
A self-employed architect, Parker served 22 years on the Damariscotta Planning Board, including 15 years as chairman.
Only one Damariscotta candidate filed nomination papers for office before the April 28 deadline: Great Salt Bay Sanitary District Trustee John Gallagher. No one returned papers for two seats on the Damariscotta Board of Selectmen and one on the Great Salt Bay School Committee, all for three-year terms.
The terms of Selectmen Josh Pinkham and Vicki Pinkham and Great Salt Bay School Committee member Sally Farrell all expire this year. Josh Pinkham is the chairman of the Damariscotta Board of Selectmen; Farrell chairs the school committee.
Josh Pinkham, Vicki Pinkham, and Vicki Pinkham’s husband, Alan “Buzz” Pinkham, all took out nomination papers at the town office, but did not return them by the April 28 deadline. Farrell has confirmed her intentions to step down at the end of her term.
Damariscotta will go to the polls for its annual town meeting June 10-11. The polls will be open at the town office, 21 School St., from 8 a.m to 8 p.m., Tuesday, June 10.
The open town meeting will convene at Lincoln Theater, 2 Theater St., at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 11.
