Two residents have returned nomination papers to appear on the ballot as candidates for a seat on the Wiscasset Board of Selectmen, vacant as the result of the recent resignation of Judy Flanagan.
Former longtime First Selectman Lawrence R. Gordon Jr. and longtime Lincoln and Sagadahoc Multicounty Jail Authority member Katharine Martin-Savage are running for the opportunity to complete Flanagan’s term.
A special election for the seat is scheduled for Jan. 31. Flanagan’s term will expire June 13, Wiscasset Town Clerk Linda Perry said. Despite the short term, Wiscasset selectmen voted to move forward with a special election so there would be a five-member board as Wiscasset enters its budget season.
