A Damariscotta woman and a Pemaquid woman were transported to LincolnHealth – Miles Campus with non-life-threatening injuries after a crash on Route 129 in South Bristol Wednesday afternoon, July 29.
Elizabeth N. Noyes, 81, of Damariscotta, was driving a 2007 Austin Cooper north on Route 129 in the Walpole area of South Bristol at about 12:33 p.m., according to Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Rand Maker.
Billie M. MacGregor, 81, of Pemaquid, was making a right-hand turn from the driveway of Hair Express into the northbound lane of Route 129 in a 1997 Volvo 850 station wagon.
MacGregor failed to yield the right-of-way to Noyes and the Noyes vehicle struck the MacGregor vehicle, according to Maker.
The Central Lincoln County Ambulance Service transported MacGregor and Noyes to Miles.
MacGregor was transferred to Maine Medical Center in Portland, according to LincolnHealth spokesman Alan Crowell. She remains at the Portland hospital in fair condition as of Thursday, July 30, according to a Maine Medical Center spokeswoman.
Noyes was initially admitted into the intensive care unit at Miles, but has since been moved and was listed in “stable to improving” condition Thursday, July 30, according to Crowell.
MacGregor sustained head and leg injuries; Noyes complained of abdominal pain, according to Maker.
Maker described the injuries as “incapacitating” but not life-threatening. Both drivers were wearing seat belts. The Austin Cooper’s airbags deployed; no airbags deployed in the Volvo 850.
Both vehicles were totaled. The Austin Cooper sustained front-end damage. The Volvo 850 sustained damage to the driver’s side and the passenger side, as the impact pushed the vehicle into a guardrail.
The sheriff’s office does not suspect intoxication or speed were factors in the crash.
The accident and the response shut down Route 129 from Route 130 to Walpole Meetinghouse Road from the time of the accident until 1:52 p.m., when emergency units cleared the scene.
The Bristol Fire Department, Bristol First Responders, the Central Lincoln County Ambulance Service, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, the South Bristol Fire Department, and South Bristol First Responders responded to the scene.
