Emergency crews responded to a morning traffic accident May 10 on Rt. 1 in Wiscasset that sent two area men to Maine Medical Center in Portland with non-life threatening injuries.
According to Wiscasset Police Officer Adam Temple, the head-on collision occurred after Brandon Carleton, 23, of Westport Island, crossed the centerline and drifted into the southbound lane where it struck the vehicle driven by Karl Tarbox, 50, of Wiscasset.
The accident forced emergency officials to temporarily re-route north and southbound traffic through the adjacent Flood Road across from the Wiscasset “Prettiest Village In Maine” sign.
Temple, who was coincidentally “right behind” the Tarbox’s vehicle when the accident occurred, said a Life Flight helicopter was put on standby but was never used.
Both men were taken via ambulance to Maine Medical Center in Portland where their conditions were unavailable at press time.
By the afternoon of May 10, traffic was moving as usual, said Temple. In addition to the Wiscasset Police Dept., the Wiscasset EMS assisted on the scene.
