Two men have been arrested and charged with burglary and theft by unauthorized taking or transfer at the Huntoon Hill Grange Hall on May 2, according to Wiscasset Police Chief Troy Cline.
Zachary Dunning, 20, of Alna, and James Ezzell, 32, of Westport Island, allegedly confessed to the crimes in interviews conducted by Cline on June 20, according to a department press release.
Cline said in a telephone interview that Dunning allegedly used a key owned by his grandfather, William Potter, 81, of Alna, to enter the grange.
Dunning allegedly admitted to entering the building with the intent to steal money, but claimed there was no money and only took a single Sunkist soda, Cline said.
Ezzell admitted to receiving $72 dollars from Dunning, which he claimed Dunning said was half of what he took from the building, Cline alleges.
Potter, who is an officer at the grange, reported $463.90 was missing in the burglary, Cline said.
Dunning and Ezzell were arrested on the charge of burglary, were summoned for the charge of theft by unauthorized taking or transfer, and are also both being held on a probation hold, Cline said.
