A Connecticut couple died in a high-speed, single-vehicle accident on Route 27 in Boothbay the morning of Friday, Sept. 5. Donald Hudson, 85, and his wife, Doreen Hudson, 67, of Madison, died in the accident.
Donald Hudson was driving a 2006 GMC Envoy. The SUV “was traveling north at a high rate of speed when the operator lost control,” according to a Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office press release. “The vehicle left the right side of the road (and) traveled down a ditch before striking an embankment, which caused the vehicle to go airborne. The vehicle then flipped in the air, striking a utility pole and several trees before coming to rest on its roof.”
The Hudsons were wearing seat belts.
The accident was about a half-mile south of the intersection of River Road and Route 27. It was reported at 10:33 a.m. Authorities closed Route 27 for about three hours during the investigation.
Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputy First Class Brian Collamore is the primary investigating officer. Deputy Chad Gilbert is conducting a crash reconstruction. Lt. Michael Murphy did a forensic mapping of the scene.
The Boothbay and Boothbay Harbor fire departments and the Boothbay Region Ambulance Service responded to the scene. The Madison Police Department helped local authorities locate and notify the family of the victims.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office asks anyone who was in contact with the victims before the crash or any witnesses of the crash to call Collamore at 882-7332.
