Two women were taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland after one of them lost control of the vehicle they were in and struck a tractor trailer truck in Warren the afternoon of March 15.
Cassandra Bean, 55, of Alfred, and passenger Lauren Morrissette, 57, of Alfred, were southbound on Route 1 in a 1987 Dodge pickup when Bean lost control of the truck, according to a press release from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.
The vehicle crossed the center line and struck the rear tires of a 2001 Mack truck operated by Aaron Grindle, 48, of Waldoboro, according to the release. Grindle was uninjured.
Both women, who were not wearing their seat belts, were ejected from the vehicle along with two dogs. One of the dogs has died of its injuries, according to the release.
Bean was taken to LincolnHealth – Miles Campus in serious condition, according to the release, but was later transferred to Maine Medical Center, a LincolnHealth spokesperson said.
Morrissette was taken to Miles in critical condition and was also transported to Maine Medical Center, according to the release.
According to a Maine Medical Center spokesperson, Morrissette is still listed in critical condition. Bean’s condition is listed serious.
The sheriff’s office responded to the scene at approximately 5:20 p.m., and Route 1 was shut down for accident reconstruction.
Speed and road and weather conditions were contributing factors, but the accident remains under investigation by the KCSO, according to the release.
The KCSO was assisted by the Waldoboro Police Department, Waldo County Sheriff’s Office, Maine State Police, Waldoboro Fire Department, Waldoboro EMS, and Warren Fire and Rescue.
