A Good Samaritan who reacted when he saw a vessel in distress was able to single-handedly rescue a boater who fell overboard, according to the United States Coast Guard (USCG).
People on shore originally reported a small motor vessel running in circles with no one aboard at approximately 5:45 p.m. on Fri., August 30 in the area of the Damariscotta River near Meadow Island, according to reports. The Good Samaritan responded to the scene in his own boat and was able recover the overboard boater and secure the vessel.
The Boothbay Fire Dept. and the United States Coast Guard (USCG) also responded to the scene, but the situation was resolved by the time they arrived, according to USCG Petty Officer Curt Hein.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
