Troy Chase, of Troy Chase Trucking in Pittston, is currently listed in critical condition at Maine Medical Center in Portland after his tractor-trailer rolled over in Dresden the morning of Dec. 24.
Chase was transferred to Maine Medical Center after initially being transported to Central Maine Medical Center. Chase was taken by LifeFlight helicopter to CMMC after he was extricated from the cab of his truck, which rolled off the side of a hill on Middle Road (Rt. 127).
Chase’s truck came to rest on its roof, and the frame of the truck appeared to be twisted.
“Speed was definitely a factor, but we don’t know about anything else,” Mason said.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is planning to interview Chase to find out more about what happened in the accident, Major Ken Mason said in a phone conversation Dec. 26.
“Once we talk to him and talk to a couple other people we’ll have more of an accurate description of what may have happened,” Mason said.
Traffic on Middle Road was stopped for several hours while the accident scene was handled.
Dresden Fire Dept. Assistant Chief Steve Lilly said Chase was conscious but disoriented when he was removed from the cab of the truck.
“We pretty much had to break down the truck piece by piece” to extricate the driver, said Lilly.
“Everyone worked well together,” Lilly said. “All the minds came together and worked out a plan to get him out safely.”
A page for the accident went out to Dresden Fire Department at approximately 11:30 a.m. Fire departments from Wiscasset and Richmond also responded to the scene.
Maine State Police Trooper Mark Barney responded to the scene to take a look at the truck involved in the accident. “They specialize in heavy trucks and we don’t,” Mason said on Dec. 24.
(Ed Note: An earlier edition of this story stated Chase had been released from CMMC.)
