Update: The vehicle’s driver, Nathan Austin, was treated for his injuries and released, Miles Memorial Hospital spokesman Scott Shott said May 28.
A single vehicle accident in Wiscasset the afternoon of May 27 sent one man to the hospital and closed Foye Road to traffic for over an hour as emergency crews waited for Central Maine Power to handle a severed utility pole.
Nathan Austin, 16, of Wiscasset was operating a silver Honda Civic on Foye Road when it left the roadway and struck a utility pole. The pole was severed several feet above the ground and was suspended by the utility lines.
Wiscasset Police Officer Mark Walsh said the accident remains under investigation but neither alcohol nor speed appear to be factors in the collision. Austin was wearing his seat belt but the vehicle’s airbag did not deploy, Walsh said.
Austin was transported by Wiscasset EMS to Miles Memorial Hospital for injuries.
