Democrat Eloise Vitelli of Arrowsic was the winner in the Senate District 19 special election on Tuesday, August 27. Vitelli defeated Republican Paula Benoit of Phippsburg and Green Independent Daniel Stromgren of Topsham.
Acccording to media reports Vitelli received 4621 votes; Benoit, 4339; and Stromgren, 357.
Dresden voters cast 213 votes for Vitelli; 175 for Benoit; and 15 for Stromgren.
Vitelli replaces Seth Goodall, D-Richmond, who resigned in July to accept an appointment with the U.S. Small Business Administration.
Senate District 19 includes Dresden and the Sagadahoc County towns of Arrowsic, Bath, Bowdoin, Bowdoinham, Georgetown, Perkins Township, Phippsburg, Richmond, Topsham, West Bath, Woolwich and Dresden.
