On Oct. 8, volunteers will help plant trees at Whitefield’s new Fire and Rescue Station.
Whitefield resident David Spicer, a professional arborist and landscaper, and owner of Spicer Tree Specialists, is coordinating the plantings. The landscaping will be a finishing touch for Whitefield’s new station located on Townhouse Road next to the town office.
Many of the trees have been obtained at no cost from Dutton’s Nursery in Morrill through the Maine Forestry Service’s Project Canopy.
Anyone wishing to help will be welcome – rain or shine – and should gather at 9:30 a.m. Bring shovels, rakes, etc. if possible. For more information, contact Selectman Sue McKeen at 446-7473.
The station will be formally dedicated at a ceremony starting at noon on Oct. 15. The station will be dedicated to long-time firefighter David Dixon.
This will be an opportunity to honor Dixon’s memory and recognize the work of many others who have contributed to making the new station a reality and providing the Town with fire and rescue protection.
Following the dedication, the station will be open for public tours. Refreshments will be served.
