Waldoboro Police arrested a man in connection with an attempted bank robbery at Camden National Bank in Waldoboro on March 7.
Police say employees at the bank saw Carroll Demmons, 41, of Waldoboro, walk out of the woods around noon wearing dark clothes, a ski mask and sunglasses with his hood pulled up.
Demmons reportedly ran toward the rear of the bank. Bank employees locked the doors and called 911. After trying to open a back door, the suspect fled into the woods, police said.
There were no customers in the bank at the time. Along with Waldoboro Police, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputies, Maine State Police, Marine Patrol and Maine Game Wardens also responded. The area was quickly secured and a police K-9 was used to search the area.
At approximately 11:45 p.m. that day, Waldoboro Police assisted by Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputies executed a search warrant at 756 Bremen Rd. in Waldoboro, where police seized evidence and arrested Demmons.
Demmons was charged with attempted robbery and brought to Two Bridges Regional Jail.
“It’s one thing to be lurking around a parking lot with dark sunglasses and a hood on,” said Waldoboro Police Chief Bill Labombarde. “When you make a substantial step toward gaining access to the bank to do the robbery, there is an attempt.”
