Waldoboro Fitness on Winslow’s Mill Road in Waldoboro will host an open house from 1-5 p.m. on March 7.
New owner and manager, Rob Barter, has been working to update the facility since he took over two months ago. Walls have been repainted, equipment has been fixed and Barter has opened a steam room.
“Everybody seems to really like that,” Office Manager Chris Pease said of the steam room. “We’re trying to update the place and make it more family friendly – get more young people in here.”
Currently the facility features free weights, exercise machines, tanning beds, personal trainers and a pool. The pool can be rented for group swims and will host the Waldoboro Recreation Department’s swim classes staring soon.
Those who attend the open house will be able to use the pool, and the rest of the facilities, for free, Pease said.
“We just want to show the place off and let people know what’s coming up,” Pease said.
They will serve free healthy snacks donated by Hannaford Brothers Grocery and there will be a nurse taking free blood pressure readings.
“She’s not sure exactly what hours she’s going to be available, but she’ll be here,” Pease said.
There will tables with information about A Family For Me – an adoption and foster parenting agency – sign-ups for the Waldoboro Recreation Department swimming lessons, and products on display from Maine Natural Health company, Pease said.
They will also be raffling off a free year membership and will be offering a one-day-only deal to those who attend the open house.
“We haven’t decided just yet what that’s going to be,” Pease said.
The goal of all this work and the open house is to boost membership, Pease said.
“We want people to see how much of a family we are here,” she said. “Everybody knows everybody by their first name.”

“And soon we’ll have a Facebook page,” Pease said.
