A Waldoboro man was arrested on two warrants in Lewiston Sept. 2 after police tracked him down during their investigation of a vehicle chase earlier that day.
Wayne King, 35, was arrested Tuesday night after Maine State Police troopers found him hiding in the storage area of an apartment house in Lewiston, according to a press release from the Department of Public Safety.
King was arrested on two outstanding warrants for failure to pay fines and a probation violation, and is now being held at the Androscoggin County Jail, according to the release.
The state police were looking for a purple 1999 Chevrolet Tracker was involved in a “reckless driving incident” where the driver failed to stop for a state trooper and nearly struck two flaggers at a construction site in Durham, according to a post on the Maine State Police Headquarters Facebook page.
The state police were originally looking for a former owner of the Tracker, but the man contacted the state police after seeing his photograph on Facebook and in news reports.
The former owner, Edwin Duquette, 48, told the state police he had sold the SUV to a young man in recent weeks, who also took the vehicle’s license plates, according to the release.
King is believed to now own the vehicle, which had not been located as of Sept. 4.
