A 43-year-old Waldoboro man has been sentenced to four years in prison for sex crimes against a man and a woman in Waldoboro last year.
John D. Wyman pleaded guilty to class B attempted gross sexual assault, class B burglary, class B gross sexual assault, and class C unlawful sexual contact at the Lincoln County Courthouse Sept. 28.
Additional charges of class B unlawful sexual contact and class D unlawful sexual touching were dismissed. The former charge involved a third individual, a young boy.
Wyman was sentenced to nine years in prison with all but four years suspended and three years of probation for the attempted gross sexual assault and burglary; five years, all suspended, and three years of probation for the gross sexual assault; and four years in prison for the unlawful sexual contact.
The sentences for the attempted gross sexual assault and gross sexual assault will run consecutively, which means Wyman will serve a total of four years in prison and six years of probation. The sentences for the burglary and unlawful sexual contact will run concurrently to the other sentences.
His probation conditions prohibit contact with the victims, prohibit the possession or use of alcohol, subject him to random searches and tests for alcohol and drugs, and require sexual-offender and substance-abuse treatment.
If he violates probation, he could return to prison for up to 10 more years – the suspended portion of the attempted gross sexual assault and gross sexual assault sentences.
Wyman is in custody at the Maine Correctional Center in Windham, according to the Maine Department of Corrections.
Officer Larry Hesseltine, of the Waldoboro Police Department, was the investigating officer.
According to Hesseltine’s affidavit, Wyman entered a Waldoboro woman’s home without permission – resulting in the burglary charge – and “tried to force her to have sex with him” – resulting in attempted gross sexual assault, unlawful sexual contact, and unlawful sexual touching charges – in August 2014.
The next month, Wyman sexually assaulted an adult male aquaintance after a night of drinking, according to the affidavit. The man “was unconscious or otherwise physically incapable of resisting and had not consented,” according to Wyman’s indictment.
Wyman was arrested Oct. 2, 2014.
