A LifeFlight helicopter flew a 39-year-old Waldoboro man to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston after a single-vehicle crash in Friendship early Thursday, Aug. 18.
Police believe alcohol and speed were factors in the crash, according to a press release from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.
Joseph Solomon, 39, of Waldoboro, was driving a 2009 Mazda sedan on Cushing Road in Friendship before 2 a.m. when he left his travel lane, overcorrected, and lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle left the roadway, continued onto a lawn, struck a large tree, spun around in the road, and came to rest in a driveway.
“The crash was violent enough to rip the engine from the car and (the engine) was in the roadway,” according to the press release. The vehicle was destroyed.
Solomon was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
Knox County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Patrick Polky and Deputy Paul Spear responded to the crash, along with the Friendship Fire Department and Waldoboro Emergency Medical Services.
