When the poll for the April #LCNme365 photo contest closed at 5 p.m., Monday, April 24, Savannah Wotton had come away with the victory by a five-vote margin.
Wotton, of Waldoboro, captured her shot of the old button factory in January 2016 as she was driving home from work.
“I happened to be driving by at sunset and noticed how pretty it was,” Wotton said. “I had my camera with me in the car, so I turned around and went back to get a few pictures.”
Wotton used her Sony Alpha 6000 to take the photos and submitted her favorite shot to the contest.
Wotton’s love of photography began when she traveled to Australia and New Zealand at the age of 14. For the trip, Wotton purchased her first camera, a Canon Rebel that used film.
“That started my love for taking pictures, and I got my first digital camera after that, also a Canon Rebel,” Wotton said.
One of Wotton’s favorite subjects to photograph is the Medomak River. Her boyfriend, Dustin Day, is a lobsterman in Bremen, giving her ample opportunities to shoot on the water.
In addition to having her photo featured on the front page of The Lincoln County News, Wotton will receive a $50 gift certificate from April’s contest sponsor, SugarSpell Sweets, of Damariscotta.
As the fourth monthly winner, Wotton cannot win another weekly or monthly contest in 2017, but she can still submit photos for inclusion in the weekly slideshow of entries on lcnme.com.
Wotton’s photo will compete against the other 11 monthly winners at the end of the year as voters select the winner for 2017.
Submissions are now being accepted for the May #LCNme365 contest. The winner will receive a $50 gift certificate from the monthly sponsor, Smitten Collectibles & Nerdy Treasures, of Damariscotta.
