Sheepscot Bay Physical Therapy will soon be moving a short distance from the spot it has occupied for almost 10 years in downtown Waldoboro to a bigger, more easily accessible space on Route 1.
Leaving its location on Jefferson Street, the business plans to move Feb. 2 into the space left vacant when CarQuest Auto Parts moved to its new location last spring.
“We’ve outgrown our space and we’ve been looking for a couple of years for a good place that would fit us to move [to], so when CarQuest left, it’s a good location out on Route 1, great visibility,” said Jean Beattie, a doctor of physical therapy and owner of the business.
Sheepscot Bay primarily treats people following back and neck injuries, car accidents, orthopedic surgery, or other musculoskeletal injuries, and also treats patients for female incontinence, Beattie said.
The practice’s current staff will stay on with the move, and Beattie doesn’t anticipate any disruption of service.
The new location is larger by roughly a third, and the entrance being at the same grade as the parking lot will make it easier for patients to access, Beattie said.
“We do have a ramp that we’ve put down to the sidewalk for handicapped access [at the current location], but this will be easier because it’ll be right straight in,” she said.
The company is doing its own renovations in the new space, Beattie said. Her husband, David Flynn, has constructed a treatment room and reception area; Beattie and other staff members at the practice have been doing drywall work and painting.
With the larger space, Stacy Graffam, a personal trainer at the practice, will have more room to offer senior exercise classes, and Beattie will be offering a Pilates class through Regional School Unit 40’s adult education program starting in March.
Sheepscot Bay will also be starting a new program this spring geared toward preventing anterior cruciate ligament, or ACL, injuries in female preteen and teen athletes, Beattie said. The program is expected to span several weeks, she said.
