The Waldoboro Board of Selectmen voted unanimously March 26 to oppose the budget being put forward by Gov. Paul LePage.
The resolution proposed by Selectman James Bodman specifically cites proposals in the governor’s budget that would cut state reimbursements for general assistance, eliminate the Homestead Exemption and Circuit Breaker property tax program for those under the age of 65, take a portion of truck excise taxes currently collected by municipalities and create a corporate tax exemption for “large amounts of currently taxable property.”

“Resolved, that the Town of Waldoboro calls upon the Maine Legislature to reject these proposals and avoid this regressive tax shift,” the resolution states.
