Trained operating nurse Andy Kennedy of Waldoboro saw the devastation wrought by a massive earthquake in Haiti and was determined to help out. He has joined a small team of medical professionals and is working in a rural town south of Port-au-Prince.
The team, which includes one doctor, four paramedics and two registered nurses (including Kennedy), will be in the town for two weeks fulfilling the medical needs of hundreds of people in the wake of the wounded thousands left homeless by the earthquake. Kristin Kennedy expects her husband to return to Maine mid-February.
“Right now they’re in Haiti and it’s raining,” Kristin said, adding that people are sleeping outside, because they don’t want to be inside in case another earthquake strikes.
The team has a website and updates information as to their progress on a Facebook page. To learn more about what Kennedy and the team he joined are doing and how to make a donation toward their work, visit www.imateam.org.
