Waldoboro selectmen may take action as soon as Tuesday, Feb. 26, on a request to clarify parking privileges adjacent to the Movie-Pizza Shoppe on Friendship Street.
The Board of Selectmen will hold a public hearing at the start of their regular meeting, to give citizens the opportunity to respond to a proposed ordinance currently posted at the town’s website at http://www.waldoboromaine.org.
Town Manager John Spear said Feb. 21 the board can enact the ordinance without a vote of the town.
If enacted parking in the affected area would be limited to one hour from 8 a.m.-6 pm.
Parking in the town lot on the east side of Jefferson Street would be limited to no more than two consecutive hours within any six hour period.
In a Dec. 18 letter, and again at the Jan. 22 meeting of the board of selectmen, Kathy Hammer told selectmen and Town Manager John Spear that tenants living at 235 Jefferson St. “have private parking with their apartment rentals but choose to park there out of convenience.”
Hammer owns the Bad Hair Days spa, beauty and personal care salon, located in the first floor of the apartment building.
Hammer requested lines be painted to define the spaces across the street from her business. She asked the board to set a time limit on the spaces to discourage extended parking by residents of the building and said some residents park overnight, making snow removal difficult for municipal crews.
Hammer told the board some of the services she offers take 2-3 hours.
Spear told the board it would take several meetings to do the necessary research and enact an amendment to the town’s traffic ordinance.
The hearing will take place at the start of next meeting of the Waldoboro Board of Selectmen on Tuesday, Feb. 26 at 6 p.m. For more information, call the Waldoboro Town Office at 832-5369.
