The members of the union representing employees of the Waldoboro Public Works Department and Waldoboro Police Department approved a proposed contract last week.
The contract – in negations since last September – will be sent to the Waldoboro Board of Selectmen. The board is expected to review the contract at their Feb. 14 meeting and vote on whether or not to approve it.
The proposed contract covers employees from July 1, 2011, through June 30, 2013. It includes no pay increase for the first year of the contract and a 4 percent pay increase for all covered employees beginning in July 2012.
The contract also requires some employees to pay part of their health insurance. The contract essentially confirms a policy in place since late last year that requires all employees who receive family health insurance coverage to pay 15 percent (about $1000 per year) of the difference between a single and family health insurance plan.
In a telephone interview on Feb. 13, Town Manager John Spear said the union and town were “close to an impasse on a few occasions.”
“I’m pleased with the job [the town] did in negotiating this contract,” Spear said.
