Darick and Terri Herald, of Walpole, purchased Coastal Car Wash Sept. 15 and are settling into owning the business, which has locations in Boothbay Harbor and Damariscotta.
“My best friend talked me into buying it. The previous owner was sort of thinking about selling it, and I didn’t enjoy my previous job. One day, the numbers and
timing just made sense,” Darick Herald said.
Before buying the car wash, Herald was a manufacturing supervisor, and before that, he was an assistant manager of an electronics store.
“I’d quit my old job at the manufacturing plant, and worked here for about four months before the closing date, so I could get acclimated to the business,” Herald
said.
“I’ve lived around here my whole life, and didn’t want to move my family out of the area for a job,” Herald said.
During the offseason, two people work at the car wash, but during the summer season, three people work there. “I’m usually here, and I help out,” Herald said.
Services at both locations include auto detailing, undercoating, headlight restoration, dent removal, paint touch-ups, and scratch removal, Herald said.
Coastal Car Wash is located at 369 Main St. in Damariscotta and 219 Townsend Ave. in Boothbay Harbor. “The Boothbay Harbor location has a laundromat as well,” Herald
said.
The car wash locations are open from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday. Both locations are closed Sunday. For more information,
