A Massachusetts company, Bay Communications, plans to erect a cell tower in Walpole, according to the owner of the proposed site.
Steven Viega, co-owner of the approximately 60-acre parcel in Walpole, said the tower would be “back and out of sight” in a wooded area east of his home.
“We don’t want to see it,” Viega said March 11. “I don’t think it’s going to affect anyone.”
Viega said he hopes the cell tower will positively impact the quality of cell service on the peninsula.
Under the company’s agreement with the property owners, Bay Communications has up to a year to begin construction, at which time an agreed-upon lease will begin. Viega declined to reveal the length or terms of the lease.
Viega said the company will not tell him what service provider, if any, is attached to the project.
He said he doesn’t have any information about the specifics of the structure, including its height.
A Bay Communications representative declined comment.
