A Wiscasset man who allegedly escaped arrest following a high speed pursuit in December was taken into custody without incident by Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputies at a Jefferson residence late Monday night.
According to a statement from the Wiscasset Police Department, LCSO deputies arrested Glenn E. Lewis, 58, after receiving information on Lewis’ whereabouts around 11 p.m Jan. 13.
Acting on this information, at approximately 11:50 p.m. LCSO Deputy Jared Mitkus and Reserve Deputy Joel Seekins responded to 144 Rockland Rd. in Jefferson. There the deputies made contact with Jeffrey King, 50, of that address.
Initially King denied that Lewis was present, but after Mitkus advised King Mitkus knew otherwise, King admitted Lewis was in the residence. Deputies Mitkus and Seekins entered the residence and discovered Lewis hiding upstairs.
According to Wiscasset police, Mitkus immediately saw several firearms in plain view. Lewis was taken into custody without incident on the outstanding warrant.
King was arrested for hindering apprehension and/or prosecution and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.
King and Lewis were both were transported to Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset where they will remain pending arraignment.
Lewis was allegedly involved in a high speed pursuit with Wiscasset police Dec. 16.
At that time, Wiscasset Police Chief Troy Cline said he observed a black Ford sedan, allegedly operated by Lewis, completing an unsafe pass on Route 27 just as Cline was entering Route 27 from Dorr Road around 8:40 a.m.
Cline said he noticed there was no license plate or inspection sticker on the front of the vehicle. He pursued the car onto Blinn Hill Road in Dresden, where Lewis allegedly slammed on the brakes and struck the curb, Cline said.
Thinking the chase had ended, Cline pulled up to the sedan, at which point he allegedly identified Lewis, whom Cline said he knows through previous interactions. However, Lewis backed away from the curb and continued down Blinn Hill Road onto Bog Road where Cline chose to discontinue pursuit, citing road conditions and his confidence in the visual identification.
Later that same day, Cline obtained an arrest warrant for Lewis on charges on eluding an officer, criminal speeding, and improper attachment of plates. Chief Cline has said additional charges are likely.
