East Boothbay Shipyard Washburn & Doughty launched two tugboats last week while another tug was delivered to its owner, Moran Towing.
On Nov. 4, a giant crane, mounted on a 100 by 200 foot barge named Chesapeake 1000, owned and operated by Donjon Marine out of New York City, picked up the two tugs from Shipyard cradles and set them in the Damariscotta River.
The Loretta B. Moran is a 98-foot long Washburn & Doughty designed harbor escort and firefighting tug with a 6600 horsepower engine mounted to Z-drives. She is a sister ship to the Catherine C. Moran which was launched earlier in the summer.
Both tugs will be based in Louisiana where they will escort LNG carriers.
A second tug, the Lizzie Moran, a 92-foot-long Washburn & Doughty designed, 5100 horsepower tug was also launched on Wednesday.
The Lizzie was under construction last summer when she was damaged during last year’s fire at the shipyard.
Both tugs were constructed outside while contractors rebuilt the yard’s new facilities.
