The body of a Washington man who officials say set fire to his summer camp and attempted to set fire to his mother’s home was found hanging from a ridge pole in a nearby garage on May 10.
The body of 37-year-old Robert Medeika was found after firefighters, including crews from Jefferson and Somerville, responded to the “fully involved structure fire” a little after 9 p.m.
The fire destroyed the camp, but damage to the mother’s home was minimal; she was not at home, according to a State Police press release.
The State Police bomb team was also called to the garage where the man’s body was found to examine a suspicious item, which turned out to be harmless, according to the press release.
The bomb team was brought in “as a precaution following a police standoff with Medeika a year or so ago, in which he placed a number of explosive devices on the property,” according to the release.
