The first week of June marks the highly anticipated opening of the Wasses Hot Dogs stand at 519 Main St. in Damariscotta.
The formerly vacant lot was home to the County Fair Motel for many years and Kat’s Kart and other mobile eateries in more recent times. It is on the corner of the busy intersection of Biscay Road and Main Street, opposite from McDonald’s.
Owner Keith Wasses, of Lincolnville, founded the company in Rockland 43 years ago and said he is thrilled to join Damariscotta’s thriving business scene. He runs three other stands in Belfast,
Thomaston, and Rockland, where customers began suggesting that he expand to Damariscotta.
Wasses and his associates are excited about the stand itself. Modeled after the structure at the Belfast location, the stand came from Backyard Buldings, a construction company based out of Unity’s Amish community.
The stand is designed for fast and efficient service. Customers will order and receive their food in approximately 50 seconds.
Wasses plans to operate the stand year-round, Tuesday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a possibility of extended hours on weekends.
